MANY CITIES PROHIBIT TRASH BINS IN PUBLIC VIEW - UNLESS PROPERLY ENCLOSED

Trash Bin Hidee Is Designed for Exactly That

An attractive enclosure that keeps your bins legal and out of sight.

Two Reasons to Keep Trash Bins in Front of Your House

Reason 1

Imagine no longer dragging heavy trash bins from your back yard, through the mechanics alley, up steep, uneven, and narrow stairs — usually in the dark, sometimes in the rain — just to participate in the weekly ritual known as Trash Day.

Then, at the end of the day, you must drag them back where they belong until next week.

Repeat 52 times per year!

Repeat 52 times per year!

Reason 2

Consider the space you will free-up in your garage moving your trash bins outside.

You might free up enough space to store several bicycles or even open your car doors all the way.

And consider what goes in a trash can.

Do you really want your garbage kept in an enclosed garage all week long?

Ten Reasons to Consider Buying a Trash Bin Hidee

  1. Choose one of six models based on its location on your property, available space, surface incline, and desired security level.

  2. Each Trash Bin Hidee is custom built to precisely fit any combination of three bins — 32-, 64-, and 96-gallon — ensuring a compact footprint while preserving effortless access and everyday ease of use.

  3. You choose the siding material, pick a paint or stain from a wide selection of colors, and select hardware finishes that compliment your home.

  4. Gas springs help lift the lid and hold it securely open — providing easy, worry-free access when you need it.

  5. Free delivery throughout the San Francisco area, which also includes professional on-site installation and setup.

  6. Each Hidee is professionally designed and proudly built in San Francisco since 2022, with craftsmanship and attention to detail.

  7. Comes with a one-year limited warranty‍ ‍of or your peace of mind.

  8. The Hidee’s sturdy, all-wood construction‍ ‍meets San Francisco regulatory requirements.

  9. The Hidee can be placed on a slope without compromising stability or structural integrity.

  10. Lockable stainless-steel latches firmly secures both the doors and lid, providing reliable, long-lasting security.

Six Steps to Purchase a Trash Bin Hidee

Step 1 - What Model Best Fits My Needs?

An outdoor wooden cabinet with open doors, situated against a decorative brick wall with a geometric pattern.

Front Entry Hidee

Easiest to access the bins while maintaining maximum security, this model is the most popular due to its two front-facing doors and a hinged top lid, which provide exceptional ease of use and convenient access.

A white outdoor trash and recycling bin enclosure with swung-open doors, revealing three colorful waste bins inside: black, green, and blue, placed on a concrete sidewalk in front of a building with blue siding and gray trim.

Front Entry Topless Hidee

This model does not have a top lid, only doors, which provides viewing protection only when positioned away from the sidewalk and nearer to your home.

Side Entry Hidee

Specifically designed to fit narrow passageways where front access is limited, this model includes a top lid and a convenient left- or right-positioned side door for easy bin loading and removal.

Three garbage bins (blue, black, and green) placed under a wooden frame, with painted wooden flower pots on the side, on a backyard patio.

Rear Entry Hidee

With a top lid (but no doors), this model is specifically designed to obscure the bins when positioned close to the sidewalk, where the bins would otherwise be visible.

A wooden planter box made of light-colored wood panels sits on a concrete driveway in front of a stone wall and white garage door.

Easy Entry Hidee

Easy access to the bins — this model omits a top lid and doors, offering the simplest, most open design but providing the least amount of security.

Side Entry Topless Hidee

Same as the Side Entry Hidee, but this model does not include a top lid, therefore it should be placed closer to your home and kept well back from the sidewalk.

Step 2 - Does It Have a Big Footprint, or Is It Pretty Compact?

  • The Trash Bin Hidee is built to match the exact size of your trash bins, giving you a snug, efficient fit and the smallest footprint possible without losing convenience.

  • Most other enclosures only come in small, medium, or large, which often leaves wasted space inside and takes up more room outside than necessary.

  • With Trash Bin Hidee, the sizing is based on the actual gallon capacity of each bin. That’s why every Classic Hidee or Brina Hidee can be purchased in ten different three‑bin combinations, not just small, medium, or large.

T1-11 Plywood

T1-11 is a type of plywood siding that features an exterior grade with a rough finish.

It has a rustic appearance, is inexpensive and easy to maintain.

Because of its neutral color T1-11 is perfect for staining with the available choice of colors.

Redwood

Specifically we use Redwood Construction Heart grade.

Redwood is naturally resistant to a variety of insects, destructive fungi, and dry rot.

This material can last up to twenty years, making it a long-lasting choice for outdoor applications.

Tight Knot Red Cedar

Tight Knot Red Cedar

The presence of knots provides a unique texture and a warm, rustic appearance.

It contains natural oils and tannins that repel termites and prevent decay.

Its natural appearance lends itself to be coated with a clear finish.

NOT AVAILABLE

Ipe

Ipe (also known as Brazilian Walnut or Brazilian Ironwood) is very dense and durable and can last as long as fifty years. Ipe is so dense, it will sink in water.

It can vary in color between yellow, darker blackish and reddish-brown hues.

Its natural appearance lends itself to be coated with a clear finish.

Step 4 - Which Finish Is Actually Going to Look ‘Right’ in My Space?

Unfinished

  • We can leave the exterior of your Hidee unfinished, allowing you the creative freedom to paint or stain it to match your unique style and color preferences.

  • The primer and paint are brush applied to insure maximum penetration and adhesion to the wood surface.

  • To suit your personal style and preferences, you can choose from a palette of fifteen colors shown below.

Step 5 - I Feel Like I Need Two More Options to Round Things Out.

Hardware Color

Hinges, latches, and exposed fasteners, including screws and bolts, are made of stainless steel and are available in two colors.

  1. Stainless Steel, known for its classic and neutral appearance,

  2. Matte Black, which offers a sleek modern appearance.

Both options ensure longevity and resistance to corrosion, making them suitable for outdoor use across diverse locations.

Stainless Steel

  • Stainless steel is highly recommended for applications requiring maximum corrosion resistance, particularly in harsh environments like coastal areas.

  • Its durability translates to a longer lifespan compared to plain steel, making it a reliable choice for demanding conditions.

Plain Steel.

  • In contrast, plain steel offers a more budget-friendly option, though it may not withstand corrosive elements as effectively as its stainless counterpart.

  • This makes plain steel suitable for less exposed environments where cost is a significant consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It depends on where you plan to place your Hidee and how much space you have available.

    • The Front Access Hidee’s main advantage is the ease of bin removal thanks to its wide front doors and the way the bins are oriented.

    • The Side Access Hidee’s chief benefit is its narrow footprint, making it ideal for tighter spaces or alongside driveways.

  • Two reasons:

    1. To hide the bins from view by passersby unless it’s elevation or set-back from the sidewalk make the bins unviewable from the sidwalk.

    2. To prevent people who are not members of your household from disposing their trash in your bins, potentially creating a mess or incurring additional disposal costs.

    • Two to three weeks is typically the time frame we’re looking at, but it may vary depending on our current workload.

    • We want to keep you in the loop, so we’ll be sure to contact you a few days before your Hidee is finished to schedule a convenient day and time for delivery and installation.

  • No

    • The DIMENSIONS page show the inside dimensions, the outside dimensions and the overall dimensions. Each set of dimensions are expressed as the width, depth, and height.

Maximum Slope

Ideally, your Hidee should be placed on a level surface whenever possible. If there is a slope, the change in elevation must not exceed nine inches.

Follow the instructions below to determine the slope.

  1. Decide where the Hidee is going to be located.

  2. Using the OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS‍ ‍of the Hidee enclosure, place a chalk mark or a piece of tape on the ground that corresponds to the four corners of the structure. It's important to note that the corner that is positioned at the top of the slope should always be labeled as point “A” for easy reference.

  3. Now, place the ends of a level on points “A” and “B”. Slowly raise the level over point “B” until it shows to be perfectly level. Using a ruler, carefully measure the distance between the ground at point “B” and the bottom of the level. Write this number down.

  4. Next, with one end of the level still resting on point “A”, move the other end of the level to point “C”.

  5. Again, slowly raise the level over point “C” until it displays as level. Using your ruler once more, measure the distance between the ground at point “C” and the bottom of the level. Write this number down as well.

  6. Finally, take the same measurement between point “A” and point “D”, and don't forget to write this number down too.

  7. Remember, none of the three measurements: B, C, or D may exceed the limit of nine inches.

Instead of trying to check the slope yourself and possibly getting it wrong, you can easily purchase a professional Site Survey. Trash Bin Hidee will send a skilled technician directly to your location to measure and perform all the necessary calculations. This way, you can be confident that your trash bin enclosure will fit perfectly and function flawlessly. Go here to order a Site Survey.

Sidewalk Encroachment

Property owners can apply for a Minor Sidewalk Encroachment permit through San Francisco Public Works according to San Francisco Public Works Code, Article 15, Section 723.2, The encroachment must cover no more than 25% of its width.

Link to San Francisco Public Works website.

If the sidewalk width is limited, consider buying a Side Entry Hidee because its overall depth is about half that of a Front Entry Hidee, since the absence of front doors prevents any obstruction of the walkway.

The Overall Hidee Depth can be found here: Dimensions

This table displays the minimum required sidewalk width for each model and size. These models have top lids and are recommended for placement on the public sidewalk.
